BTP story: GBC takes action

Back to Prabhupada, Issue 20, Summer 2008

By Krishnakant

In BTP issues 10 and 11 we profiled the new temple project in San Diego run by GBC member Badrinarayan Das, and we wrote that in addition to having shrines for Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesh, it was a temple:

a) which is not registered in the name of ISKCON;
b) whose trustees all seem to be well-wishers from the Hindu community apart from Badrinarayan himself;”
(BTP 11, ‘GBC defends demigod Worship’)

The GBC has now made the two points BTP raised as conditions which must be fulfilled before the deities can be moved there from their existing location to this new temple, i.e. the new temple must be registered in the name of ISKCON, and all the trustees must be ISKCON initiated members:

Whereas Sri Sri Radha Giridhari, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Sri Sri Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra of ISKCON San Diego are to be moved to a much better facility; […] Whereas the new temple (“ISKCON of Escondido”) is an ISKCON corporation […]; Whereas the board members and temple president, as directed in the bylaws, must all be ISKCON-initiated devotees in good standing; [...] RESOLVED: That the GBC approves the moving of Sri Sri Radha Giridhari into their new temple upon completion, “subject to the above-mentioned conditions."
