Sahajiya "divinity"

IRM

Back To Prabhupada, Issue 41, Autumn 2013

A most powerful way to justify one's illegitimate position of power is to claim that it is directly sanctioned by God. Thus, we have guru hoaxer HH Bhakti Charu Swami ("BCS") claiming that:

"And as your spiritual master, what is my responsibility? [...] When you joined ISKCON you joined Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada has accepted you as his property. And then due to some divine arrangements I have become your group leader."
(BCS Lecture, 5/8/2013)

BCS claims that he succeeded Srila Prabhupada as diksa guru due to "divine arrangements". However, BCS has previously admitted that he became a guru not due to any "divine arrangements", but due only to the moral and sexual degradation of his Godbrothers, followed by heavy pressure from other Godbrothers:

"I became a spiritual master after some of my very senior and very qualified god brothers fell down. Therefore, I didn't have any illusion that I was a pure devotee and I was infallible. Initially I didn't want to take up this very grave responsibility of becoming a spiritual master, but since quite a few devotees were very determined to take initiation from me and were waiting for a long time, and since there was a lot of pressure from some of my senior Godbrothers also, I accepted that responsibility."
(BCS Istagosthi, 16/9/2002)

This tendency to equate the manifestation of material arrangements with being spiritual is a characteristic of a pseudo-devotee sect known as sahajiya:

"Otherwise one will gradually become sahajia or one who takes spiritual advancement as something materially manifest."
(Srila Prabhupada Letter, 3/6/1970)
